Without the {cmdab:pre:fix} option, {cmd:renany} renames any (single) variable found in {it:varlist} to {it:varname}. If {cmdab:pre:fix} is specified, {cmd:renany} will rename all variables that begin with one prefix from {it:prefixlist} to use {it:prefix}. {p 4 4 2}Ordinarily, if more than one item from {it:varlist} or {it:prefixlist} is found in a single dataset, an error is generated. However, if the {cmdab:f:irst} option is specified, the first match occurring from {it:varlist} or {it:prefixlist} is renamed, and no error is generated. {title:Example} {cmd:. renany tom dick harry, to(guy)} {cmd:. renany this_ that_ other_, to(thingy_) prefix} {title:Also see} {psee}Online: help for {help renseq}, {help rename}, {help renpfix} {pstd}Contact: {browse "mailto:elliott.lowy@va.gov":Elliott Lowy}
